Islamic Family Guidelines
All praise is truly due to Allaah, the Almighty. We all praise Him, seek His help, and ask His Forgiveness. We seek refuge with Him from the evil of our souls, and from our sinful deeds. He whom Allaah guides, no one can misguide him and whoever Allaah misguides, no one can guide him. I bear witness that there is no deity worthy of worship, but Allaah, The Almighty alone, and I bear witness openly that Mohammed(), is truly His slave (servant) and Messenger.
“O ye who believe! fear Allaah as He should be feared, and die not except in a state of Islaam.”
“O mankind! reverence your Guardian-Lord, who created you from a single Person, created, of like nature, his mate, and from them twain scattered (like seeds) countless men and women; fear Allaah, through Whom ye demand your mutual (rights), and (reverence) the wombs (that bore you): for Allaah ever watches over you.”
“O ye who believe! fear Allaah, and (always) say a word directed to the Right: That He may make your conduct whole and sound and forgive you your sins: he that obeys Allaah and His Messenger, has already attained the highest Achievement.”
‘THE FAMILY’ is a title inspired by verse 6 of Surah at-TAHREEM.
{ يَاأَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا قُوا أَنفُسَكُمْ وَأَهْلِيكُمْ نَارًا وَّقُودُهَا النَّاسُ وَالْحِجَارَةُ }
“ O ye who believe! protect yourselves and your families from a Fire whose fuel is Men and Stones ”
In this verse Allaah orders us to protect ourselves and our families from the Hell- Fire. Though this Surah deals with the personal life of the Last Messenger of Allaah () and his righteous wives, but its sixth verse is rather general in its meaning. All of us being responsible for our families, have to do our best to protect them from the Hell-Fire. The Fire which will have as its fuel human beings and stones. The word ‘stone’ does not just apply to rocks, but also to all non-living things which caused people’s deviation from the straight path. What is meant here is the material wealth that the people run after and materials that waste away one’s precious time (which include music and other haraam forms of passtimes ). These make the people careless about the real purpose of creation and as such are doomed to the fire of Hell.
Therefore, I decided to write a short book, which covers most of the social issues related to parents, husbands, wives and children. It is therefore a very beneficial book for all members of the family. It has lessons for the Allaah-fearing men and women who want to start their family lives. It has lessons for the family, which has already developed as a basic unit of the society. It has the lessons for the parents and their children. Therefore, I have divided it into four parts:-
(1) How can an ‘Islaamic Family’ guided by the Light of the Book of Allaah and the ideal example of the Messenger of Allaah () i.e.Hadeeth,be established.
(2) The rights which the husband and wife owe to one another.
(3) The responsibilties of the Parents towards their children.
(4) The responsibilties of the children towards their parents.
